My name is Jan and I’m a writer/director based in Amsterdam. I directed various commercials and films. My first short film ‘A Man Falls From The Sky’ was selected at 25+ festivals worldwide and won 6 awards during the annual Shortcutz festival in Amsterdam in 2017, won the Audience award at Bucharest Short Film Festival and Best Human Rights Film Award at the Black Sea Film Festival.
In 2019 my second short ‘Wild’ won the Méliès d’Or for best European Fantastic short film at Sitges Film Festival, after winning the Méliès d’Argent at Imagine Film Festival earlier that year. Tampere Short Film Festival, Bucheon, Bogoshorts and Prague Shorts were among the numerous festival selections.
In 2021, my single play for Dutch streamer Videoland called INDRINGER and my last short film PANTSER premiered in competition at the Nederlands Film Festival. PANTSER won the Gouden Kalf (Dutch Academy Award) for best short film of the year. It became a Vimeo Staff Pick and Short Of The Week and was selected for Directors Library. Also selected for Cinekid and Short shorts Japan, among others.
In 2025 my debut feature KIND released in cinemas nationwide. KIND was selected in competition at Austin Film Festival and became the opening film at Razor Reel Flanders.
Right now, I am developing two new feature films.
